| Mel spent the evening with Caillie, of course the healers and her ladies fussed over her all evening. She enjoyed the festivities at court, but for the misunderstanding of the actions of one fellow, a friend of the court. While Caillie slept, though, Mel mused over the events of the assassination attempt. He was overjoyed that his wife survived the attempt but he was disappointed in the reactions of those in the room. He spent his entire life trying to bring the King's justice to the land, allowing all to tell their story, regardless of the crime. He had asked that the life of this person be spared and he be allowed to bring him to justice in a court of law. Instead, we were no better than the perpetrator himself. Killing him outright, completely against the King's own words. "Don't kill him, leave him to me." as he recalled saying. "Chain him and put him in the dungeon. The truth would come out as to why this took place. Now we have a dead assassin with no answers. Mel would not believe that a Templar, a knight from his own order, would do this. The knife found had the Templar insignia on it. Was it a rogue knight, drummed out of the order? Was it stolen from a true knight? We'll never know now. Yes, it was a disappointment. | |
