| This was a class I gave a while back and Karen asked me to post it here.
I know we’ve had a class on this, but I think this bears going over again as some people are being called the wrong things at the wrong times. So here it is, with the Queens approval.
We will start with the titles that we MAY call *Their Royal Majesties*. Note that all those words were capitalized. That is proper. At no time does ANY Royal use their Surname.
ROYALTY
The King
King Byron III, Majesty, Sire, My Liege, My King and yes, even My Lord is proper to call a King. If you and said King are close friends, then you may usually address him by his given name only in private, with his permission of course.
The Queen
Queen Caillean, Majesty, My Lady Queen , My Queen and Madam are the only proper Titles to call a Queen.
A Prince
Usually a Duke or Count as well, but is never addressed as such. Would only be used as an announcement to his entry into a Hall, Court, or ball etc…Then it would be thus, His Royal Highness Prince Byron IIII, Duke of so and so. He will be His Highness, Prince Byron, My Prince and plain ole Highness.
A Princess
Usually a Duchess or Countess as well but is never address as such. Would only be used as an announcement to her entry into a Hall, Court, or Ball etc…Then it would be Her Royal Highness Princess Siobhan, Duchess of so and so. My Princess, Princess Siobhan, Her Highness and Highness.
A Duke
Things get a bit tricky here so pay attention. LOL Normally a Duke is Never called by his birth name. Let’s give you an example of His Grace Aiden Reinhardt, Duke Seacrest. That would be how he would be announced upon entering a Court or Ball or such, BUT he would be referred to as Duke Seacrest or Your Grace, and to his friends and contemporaries, simply Seacrest. The name of his Duchy is Seacrest and hence the reason he would be called such, you were equated and associated with your land holdings. My Lord is also proper. NEVER call him My Lord SeaCrest. THAT isn‘t proper.
A Duchess
I will use Her Grace Aisling Reinhardt, Duchess Seacrest as an example here. She may also be addressed as Your Grace and My Lady. Never My Lady Seacrest. Now she might have another portion of property and would wish that as her title, and would the same as I stated above. Especially here in Solurius where we make exceptions for the woman to carry their own titles. Other Kingdoms may not allow this.
Nobility
A Count
Bryan Helgraz, Count Shadow Cove. May also be called My Lord. As with the duke and Duchess, they are NOT called by their Surname. And most wouldn’t call him by his given name. Shadow Cove is appropriate.
A Countess
We will use Rennie Savage, Countess Un Cadeau de Meres. Also may be called My Lady. Never would she be called by her Surname.
A Viscount, A Baron and a Baroness
All of the above are Nobility and will be called by their lands holdings. The same as a above.
Now you will notice that ALL Royalty and Nobility are never called by their given or Surnames. It’s simply not done. ONLY the closest of friends and usually ONLY in a very private setting would a first name be used without a title. NEVER in Public and this means IN Courts, Balls, etc. Anything that forces Royalty and Nobility to be in the same area at the same time.
I know some f you are sticklers and think you’re above the rest…but you only make your char look less that what it is when you do this.
We also implemented the use of a Herald to announce you when you enter the Great Hall, which could get VERY imaginative if you would try…think of the Herald on *A Knights Tale* and how colorful his introductions were. THIS to can be you and your char. And the Royals will stop acknowledging your char if there is no proper introduction. If you wish to be acknowledged by our Royals, then it’s up to YOU to bring that char forth to be seen by them and formally be recognized in Court. It will be your OWN fault if you feel ignored or shunned. This too can be made fun and imaginative. Isn’t that what we’re all here for? To have fun and be imaginative? I mean we have DrachenFyre as our Herald at Banquet and he formally announces us and formally introduces us to their Majesties right? And don’t we all use the formalities there as well? Give it a try. It can be very fun. | |

ME : A raven-haired beauty, it is a constant struggle to tame the wild, curling tresses, often drawn back by delicate silver combs when she attends to the court, and left free when she dons the traditional attire of her people, too proud of her favorite feature to modestly cover it. Her eyes are expressive, a constant betrayal of her passionate emotions, in a brilliant shade of emerald green. Olive skinned, fine boned, and petite, she rises only to a little more than five foot three, with a narrow waist, and subtle curves. Her right arm and shoulder are decorated in intricate floral tattooing, and she is almost always adorned with jewelry; from her golden nose ring, to copper bracelets, belled bangles and dangling earrings. For her own protection, she carries two daggers, their jeweled hilts tucked into her sashes, or depending from her narrow belt. Her attire varies, from layers of silken skirts and sashes, embroidered vests or soft linen blouses when she performs, to the more ornate gowns of a lady with satin slippers, but always she is accompanied by the silvery sound of tiny bells, sewn into the hems of her garments by her own hand, a chime of music in her every step. Location : Meldrum City Occupation/Titles : Division Leader of the Royal Order of Courtiers, First Lady to Her Majesty, Queen Caillean, Her Grace, Duchess Car Zenesa, Lady Luludja of the Lovari Vitsa Humor : Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself. ME : Born of a the marriage Bard and a royal falconer, his father left before his birth. His mother, Bard and Lady Kathryn Evermore, sent him to fosterage with his older sister while she ran an inn and built a home for them in his birth-land, Solurius.
He was a mere lad of seven when his powers manifested. A healer, they called him, his fledgeling abilities holding his sister's broken back together until a true Healer could repair the damage. A shock to everyone, though to him it felt like a piece of his soul coming to life. It was then they knew he must be trained.
A grown man now, young... barely twenty... always a sprite of a lad, he is whip-thin and wiry, topping out at a mere 5'7". White-blonde hair, his father's one gift to him; eyes called icy-blue match his mother's, his often dancing with mercurial warmth.
Self-contained, though frequently full of mischief and humor. Learned in chirurgeoning and herbalism, as well as his energy based healing power, finding his own way. Location : Castle of the Moors, Solurius Occupation/Titles : Baronet/Neophyte Healer Humor : Healthy Number of posts : 15 Registration date : 2007-12-01
