| Subject: TOUR OF CASTLE MOORS Sun Mar 29, 2009 12:11 pm | |
| The first thing that strikes you, once you’ve reached the general area of the Moors Castle, is the sheer size of it. Visible from the far end of the One Mile Road leading to the main gates, it’s size dominates the horizon. Riding or walking the scenery is spectacular with well groomed fields, large trees lining the pathway as if they had been planted this way hundreds of years ago.
At the front gate there are guards to greet you with a smile but wary to make sure you are friendly. Then there is the courtyard with the recently finished statue of Bryon Meldrum the third, first King of Solurius, mounted on IceWynde, his trusty steed for so many years. Life is a battle for us all therefore he’s shown dying in battle. In actuality, he lives still.
At the main entrance, known as Queen’s Gate, there are more guards who will take any weapons you have, save your eating dagger. Until you are considered a member of the realm this will be each time you visit. Huge pillars on each side greet you as well as you enter into the grand vestibule.
The beauty of the castle starts to become apparent with the tapestries, murals and gold inlay throughout. Although the castle was the King’s design, every detail of the interior was attended to by the Queen. You will walk through the hall of honors, showing the heros of Solurius over the years and the hall of Justice.
Walking up the great staircase to the second floor, you are met by more guards, assuring that you were, indeed, disarmed prior to entry into the main hall, then they escort you into the hall itself.
If you are new to the realm you should lean over to the herald, Alistaire and make yourself known so he can announce you to the Royals and the others. Take the time to look about for there is splendor everywhere.
Pillars separate the East and West Precepts from the main floor while guards line the balcony and main area of the court.
These are “The Queen’s Own” and are among the finest in the realm. At the far end of the main hall is a grand staircase that leads from the Royal’s quarters on the third floor. When the King and Queen are not in residence you would be able to take a tour of the residential areas. The rest of the castle is open for all to see.
It is proper etiquette to approach and introduce yourself to the King and Queen upon entry to any room they may be in. A curtsy or bow and your proper title and where you’re from is all that’s properly required although, if need be, you may ask for audience with their Majesties on any subject you feel requires their attention.
Once this is done, feel free to intermingle with the others in the room. When it’s time to leave you may stay in the many suites within the guest quarters of the castle. You leave through the same doors, go back down the stairs and across the vestibule to another section of the castle.
There you will find the Royal Dining Hall, the Music Room, several public rooms with books concerning the realm as well as the several guest suites. Each suite is a self contained home with living space, sleeping quarters and bath facilities and a fireplace.
When you’re sufficiently rested you might wish to walk out into the gardens. Large and landscaped to perfection, the pathways lead you to small ponds, a large lake, beautiful flower gardens line the pathways and the many kinds of trees sigh in the warm breezes of summer and slump under the weight of snow in winter. The colors of fall make the gardens glow and the newness of spring brings out the many shades of green.
