An ode to a father Empty

Mel came across a poem he'd written the day his father died in his arms, so very many years ago. He read it over and cast his mind back to the day. He remembered it all to well, it seemed, for the tears streamed down his cheek and he read:

The passing of a warrior has taken place, his day gone.
Mourned by a few, some bitterly, some only in passing.
He was a father, a husband and a friend.

He sought only the beauty of the land, he discovered so much more.
Tho he walked, lo, these many years in the shadow of war,
His soul was forever seeking only peace.

Tho he saw so much death and killed so many men,
His soul was forever seeking only life.

Tho sorrows permeated his being every day of his life,
His soul was forever seeking only joy.

Tho hatred ruled the men that ruled his life,
His soul was forever seeking only love.

His passing has left us with a little less peace,
We now have a little less love,
There be a little less joym
And there be one less life this day.

The old warrior has found new life now, in abundance,
And love that be endless,
Joys that cannot be described,
And finally, peace in his soul.

When he finished the poem he placed it safely back into the bible where it had resided all these years. Perhaps in another 20 or so years he'll pull it out again to read. He lay his head on his arms at his desk and drifted off too sleep.
