A request

A package is delivered that contains two uncut diamonds, one the size of a man's fist and the other 3/4 the size of a man's head. It also contains three flat, previously cut emeralds in the shape of leaves. Underneath the stones is a note covered in ink spatters.

"Sir,

Please forgive my poor penmanship. In order to write you this message I must keep myself from touching the parchment. I trust you'll understand.

I am led to believe that you trade in magic items and I have a rather unusual, however predictable, request.

I am in need of a number of flowers.

The first flower needs must be enchanted to remain a nondescript bud until I present it to someone, at which time an enchantment will activate, binding the flower to the person to whom I present it. Once bound it should return to the default bud form whenever it is not held. While held it should take the form of the flower most closely relating to the emotion the owner is feeling at the time. The bud should be crafted from the smaller of the two diamonds and the leaves from the three emeralds.

The remainder of the flowers needs must be enchanted to permanently take the form of the flower I wish to present at the time of presentation. They may be made out of any material you deem cost and outcome effective.

I trust the larger of the two diamonds will suffice to pay for these flowers and establish a reasonably secured line of credit with your business for any further needs I may encounter. Be aware that the larger of the two diamonds, while not spelled, contains a large quantity of a specific type of energy. I predict that you will find this energy useful in many things, not the least of which is the creation of an unstable, shape-changing, flower.

I will be here this afternoon or evening, if it please you, to call on you concerning my order.

Upon further consideration I must also ask that all of the flowers be enchanted such that they will not break from being dropped, having something dropped upon them, impervious to fire, etc. If this consumes the credit I sought to establish I shall provide another means of security."

Michael replied in a response letter.

An interesting challenge indeed. I could not in good conscious turn down such a unique request. Such a device would be an artistic pinnacle, and I will be glad to take it on. Normally, I would object to the time constraints for fear of damaging the diamond, but I see time is constrained, and your credit establishment is certainly good for it. Come and pick it up when you can. "
