Generally beyond the royals, should someone need to trade in denominations beyond medium sized exchanges or Royals. (Something in the 1000s of Coppers) it is generally accepted to use Silver or Gold bars bearing an official stamp, generally worth about 50 of the lower coin of that metal, or gemstones, especially for deals that involve great travel, like powerful Merchant-Traders. Gems can have a little variance based on assessments by individual gem experts, so their worth may be agreed upon in contract prior. Within the borders, for larger sums, the Royal Bank also issues and encourages Promissory Notes for all amounts.
The Copper is the standard coin of the realm, and the basis for which all the coins are valued. The Copper and it's derivatives (Half, Quarter, Eighth) are used for the day to day purchases of the lower class and vague middle class of the realm. Higher end purchases tend to be in Silver, which is also used more often by lower end merchants, clerks, and similar jobs. Gold is used almost exclusively for larger debts, higher end merchants, gem traders, and professionals.
Stipends scales: Stipends were usually given to help with the upkeep of manor homes or similar structures, in part as many could double as defensive holdings in case of raid or siege. Nobles were generally expected to generate their own incomes from their lands, taxes, and businesses.
