| A quiet, fond smile as she read her daughter's letter, shaking her head at the comments to her brother. She compared the sketch to the spirited beasts now housed in the best stalls in her partly-rebuilt stable, nodding.
Lovely, indeed. She tucked the sketch away safely to deliver to her son at dinner this evening and hummed softly to herself, looking more forward to the impending holiday season. | |

| Dearest Mother,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. Of course, given the tone of message from Julien's letters and the pigeons Angus sent, I suppose I should hope it reaches you at all.
I'm sending this letter with my secondary groom. As I'm sure you can see by now, he brings with it not one but two racing horses. I'm sure you're surprised, though not as much as I am. They are twins, male and female, the first result of my breeding our Irish Hunter mare to the Arabian colt - now a full grown stallion - the nomads gave us for helping save their herds in that sandstorm.
Imagine my amazement at their light color, given the dark coats of both parents. Nature and Danu work in mysterious ways. I've called the stallion Lugh, after the Shining One, the vain thing simply knows he's lovely; the mare I've called Boann, for how she flows when she runs, like the river Boyne. I've included a very detailed portrait, if you could see it gets to Julien, he'd asked for one when they were born. Don't worry if they don't suddenly win races, they're still new to the tracks. They are something like overgrown cats, so coddle and spoil them at your own risk.
Things here at the manor go very well. You did tell me it mostly runs itself. The tenant farms have impressive harvests this year, everyone is flush and doing well at the markets. No news of poachers or sharpers. I do have some interesting news, however. Early this autumn I found an abandoned bird in the woods, which turned out to be an eagle owl. Small now, I anticipate he'll get quite large at full growth. I swore never to take on falconry, and you know my reasons, however I think I may have to reneg on that vow now. I've been consulting with local falconers for appropriate housing and care. I haven't yet found a name for him, it'll come to me.
Julien's letters tell me he's contemplating fully joining the Healers down there. I think it will be good for him, his Gift is wasted up here, but don't tell him I said so. Tell him I said he stinks. I miss you both dreadfully, and I've been contemplating visiting for the Solurian holidays. If I remember correctly, Her Majesty quite enjoys doing the holidays up shiny and sparkling. I'll send news when I have more solid ideas and plans.
All my love,
Leah
