The Healer’s Compound

The healers compound is 4 floors above ground and 2 subterranean floors. The first floor is filled with many doors. The lobby is furnished with the finest of furnishings. Imported from all over th e world as well as many beautiful portraits and scenery pictures hanging on the grand walls. The King's flag and the healers caduceus hang on the main floor walls as well. The compound has a maze of stairways in it that cannot be seen from the main lobby and 2 grand staircases from the Lobby up to each floor. All carpets are green that cover the center of the 2 grand staircases and other furnishings compliment the forest greens. Most other rooms are meeting rooms, offices, infirmary rooms and a large surgery room with a dozen operating tables in it. The infirmary is to the left of the entrance and is a very large room where the sick and injured are brought first to be assessed and emergency healing is done. Upon this floor are 4 mechanical lifts used to transport patients not yet ready to walk the stairs to the upper floors to a private room.

With 3 floors above this level, the compound can accommodate over 1000 patients. If the need arose, more could be finagled if need be. The rooms on each floor are set up in a much regimented order.

Again, when occupied, fresh flowers are brought in and possible herbs depending on medicinal properties. Famous healers, astronomers and philosophers hang in the long hallways upon each upper floor. There are small minor surgery rooms set up on the upper 3 floors as well containing only one bed each. Also about 30 rooms on each floor for visiting family that wish to stay overnight with their loved ones.

The first sub floor is split in two areas. One is used for supplies and the other for quarantine. The bottom most sub-level is used for a morgue and post-mortem studies. An intricate venting system allows for fresh air to circulate through the sublevels. From the lowest level, another, more pronounced staircase leads up to ground level outside the compound.

Sheehan Tower Towers Once More Empty
PostSubject: Description of Tower for SL usage   Sheehan Tower Towers Once More IconbFri Jan 21, 2011 3:03 pm

In the Upper Ward of the Castle of the Moors, The Sheehan Tower stands. Beside it is the Healer's compound. Inside the tower there are 6 levels. 4 above ground and 2 below. As you approach the ground level from the castle walkway, there are tremendous oaken doors with intricate wood carvings of vines and birds about its edges and the caduceus or healer's symbol centered upon each door. The handles are of gold plated brass formed in the shape of crescent moons. Above the doors in gold lettering on a piece of wood shaped in a shield are the words "With Honor and Pride…We Heal The Sick!"

As the doors are swung open, you walk into a large circular area with a large round garden held within a 3-foot rock railing. Within its boundaries are abundant herbs and flowers of medicinal use as well as being pleasing to the eye and filling the tower with a very light clean aroma with a tinge of floral essence. Four Granite Statues in the shape of Cloaked Healers are placed atop the rock wall of the garden an equal distance apart. The faces are not visible as the hoods of the cloaks protrude out from the head area. Where four large fireplaces stood before, there were decorative vents upon the walls where Master Tynkre had replaced it with a piped in heating system of sorts from the huge hearths in the bowels of the tower. The room being kept at a constant warmth that welcomed all.

The ceiling is open all the way to the top of the tower where skylights funnel sunshine to the garden when the wooden shutters that covered the glass was opened. Adjustable enclosed funnels would bring rain water as well as spring water to the garden and to every floor in the tower by use of a waterwheel located on the top floor. Another invention of Master Tynkre to make it easier on the staff. .

There are 3 staircases visible to give path from the main floor to the upper floors. One side of the cylinder shaped building leads off down a huge hallway that leads into the Healer's compound.

Around the edges of the cylindrical room to the right are two large rooms. One being the formal sitting room where visitors may wait until taken to their loved ones or await the purpose of their visit. Next to it are the doors to the Massive Sheehan Tower Library. It is filled with books and scrolls from ceiling to floor around its edges and several large wooden bookshelves in a star shape in the main space, dividing the room into separate areas of study. Strategically placed settees are abundant near the room's 3 fireplaces for viewing books of choice. Several large tables with high backed chairs are wisely placed as well. Candles and lanterns are abundant throughout. Then one would come to one side of the hallway to the compound.

To the left of the front doors, and through two massive doors lies a large dining room with room for 100 people. There are four tables that seat 25 people apiece. A couple of smaller tables are set up around the edge of the room.

Several other rooms complete the circle including a kitchen which, through a side door, adjoins to the dining hall. A large supply room lies next to the kitchen. It houses boxes insulated to hold ice and supplies needing to stay cool, as well as fuel for the cooking fires. Then the other side of the hallway to the Healer's compound.

On the next level up, above the library and behind the 2 sets of doors on the left is the Mistress Healer's office and living quarters. It expands one quarter of the entire side of the tower consisting of office, sleeping quarters, personal sitting room, personal necessity room, balcony to the east, and small dining area. As you continue to look around on this level, you see each healer's individual offices lined up. ((each healer can post on boards their own descriptions) Beyond those are meeting rooms, supply rooms, and several sitting rooms with 2 large sewing and weaving rooms. All rooms open up to the inner walkway that is circular and looks down upon the main room and inner garden area. Continuing around to the other side of the tower on this floor, there are several classroom type areas and a large meeting room.

The second floor is set up with patient rooms. These would be used should the healer’s compound be unable to handle a catastrophic event where many, many would need medical care. Most recovering patients would be placed in the compound in order to keep them in one place for staff to do daily and routine chores for the patients. Still it was better safe than sorry so rooms were available in the tower and a large surgery room as well would be set upon this floor. Completely stocked with needed tools and supplies. When occupied, fresh flowers and herbs would fill the floor in hopes of speedy recovery.

The 3rd level is set up with visitor rooms. Visiting diplomats and commoners alike would find the accommodations here to be excellent with decor befitting a King or Queen, whatever the case maybe. And when occupied, fresh flowers are kept in each room for ambiance. Aside from necessary rooms and storage, reading rooms and an entertainment room, this completes the 3nd floor.

The upper level tower rooms are the servants quarters that choose to live within the compound and each allowed to decorate their own. Families and single citizens alike live there with a beautiful view of the lands. There are guest quarters on this level as well. The Division Commander has two personal rooms on this level as well. One is a sun room that looks out over the castle gardens and one is a reading room that catches the evening light. A greenhouse is also found on this floor in the center that can be accessed by no one but the healers. Poisonous plants as well as many healing plants and herbs are grown here. Guards are kept at the door constantly.

Below ground level there are two levels. The first sub-level is a storage level storing herbs, and food, and blankets, and medical supplies. A large kitchen/dining area is also kept functional on this level.

The lowest sub-level is a quarantine level and houses 50 rooms with 2 beds in each room. This is done in case of plague or other dangerously contagious situations. It keeps any from having to go to the upper levels and in contact with uninfected patients. This space can also be utilized should anyone dare attack the main castle.

On two sides of the circular tower floors are hidden stairways coming up from the ground and into the light of day. These stairwells are built in such a way that no one would detect them unless they knew they were there. An escape to the outside should disaster strike inside.

All stairways under the tower are cylindrical in shape as they are placed against the tower walls. There are tunnels that lead to the morgue of the compound but they are set up in a clever maze by design. For this purpose, only the royals, commanders and those they see necessary have keys to the huge brass doors that give entrance either way.

Sheehan Tower Towers Once More Empty
PostSubject: Sheehan Tower Towers Once More   Sheehan Tower Towers Once More IconbTue Jan 04, 2011 10:08 pm

Aisling was so excited as she had been informed that the Tower was ready for her to view with it's builder for inspection. She was grateful to the royals for the space within the castle but she longed for her own space and lots of it. She waited in her makeshift office for word that Master Tynkre was indeed ready for her.

There came a knocking at the door, it continued for quite sometime.~

Aisling's brows knitted slightly as she walked across her room and to the door with the knock persistant the whole time. But when she opened the door, there was naught a clue to the agitation on her face.

The dwarf was in the process of hammering a parchment note to the healer's door which was an invitation to meet him at the tower steps. He was using lots of nails.

As she opened the door, she was surprised to see the dwarf tacking a note to her door and looked to him.

He snorted, tore the note down and handed it to her, then marched off,
making his way to the tower where he sat down on the front steps, tapping the stonework with his hammer and listening to it.

The dwarf said nothing when he handed her the note, so she took it, read it, looked after him as he walked down the hall and then finally her senses came back to her and she smiled and grabbed a wrap to put over her shoulders as she hurridly closed the door and followed some minutes behind him towards the Sheehan Tower.

Again, the healer surprised him being right there, not doddling around wasting time. Standing up, a salute was tossed her way as he sidestepped to the canvas sheet that now covered the main entrance. "Are ye ready ta look at it er do ye wants ta take a breat' first?"

The smiled stayed upon her lips and she nodded to him as he saluted. "Oh nay, I should like verra much tae see it as quickly as be possible Master Tynkre, as I find m'self as giddy as I recall bein' the first time I stepped foot inside 'er walls."

He pulled the cover down...The doorway was the last remaining structure from the original tower, though it was hardly noticeable now. Reenmforced with stone and wood and heavy metal cross pieces it appeared to be unmovable. Handing her a key he stepped aside so she could unlock the door.

She took the key but her eyes were on the door. She noted the details of difference but it did not change the pride and welcoming the door eminated and always had. The key fit perfectly and with just a bit of effort, it turned and she could hear the clicks as they gave way. She wasn't sure she could open the door alone but again, it proved no problem as the door opened with amazingly little effort for being so heavily clad.

The doors swung open with the touch of a finger, "De 'inges is oiled up real good." stepping under the archway with the golden inscription he led her into the main round room. He pointed out things as he moved inward, "Ders where de
garden is s'posed ta go. I donnae do gardens." pointing out the four spooky statues inside the low wall. "Donnae know why dey gotta looks so scary." In the middle where the garden is supposed to go is another small statue...a garden gnome, Tynk thought it would be a good touch and it was made of stone.

Her eyes were gazing to where the atrium would be placed and to the guardians of the tower. "They be nae scary m'friend but merely watchin' from within. And I see another 'as taken tae guardin' m'tower as well." A smirk on her
lips as she gazed at the garden gnome and then to Tynkre. "It be perfect."

"De fire places is below, on account iffn ye brings de sick in dis way ye'll always be cleanin' what wit de soot and ash dat fireplaces cause. But...if ye want we'll put one up 'ere." he eyed her expecting an argument. Tapping his
heel on the foot, "Heat from de fire places below will channel up through de stone and vent tubes in de wall, but no smoke." he marched on.

One brow had lifted as she did not understand what he meant at first until explanation was offered. "It sounds wonderful Master Tynkre though I be nae familiar wit' it. I trust ye will explain more once we get moved in." She continued to follow him but her eyes were looking about, quickly looking to see if she could find the familiar grand staircase that would lead up to where her office and quarters once were.

He led her up one of the side stairways, but things where slightly different, as if she was looking at her tower in the mirror. The library was on the other side and the sitting rooms and offices were opposit where they were supposed to be. Everything was there, just not there where there should be.

Aisling felt a little strange as she realized that things were not quite the same and yet they were, just...opposite? Her brows lifted as she looked about and then her hands would go to her hips as she examined the awkward reflection of what she expected. "Master Tynkre, I do nae mean anna disrespect boot it seems that things be a bit...well....backwards, aye?"

The dwarf moved fast hoping to outpace an argument. Pointing out the supply rooms, kitchen, and he'd even installed a few dumbwaiters so folks wouldn't have to tote heavy loads up and down the stairs. The dwarf's power of persuasion was not in full gear, "Er....no, der jess as ye wanted it." wink. "Might look a bit differn't in real den it does on parchment." he ushered her on to the children's infirmary.

Aisling followed the dwarf as he continued on but she wasn't buying that this was in her original plans she had had drawn and given him before the restructuring. Still she decided to keep her words to herself until she had seen the whole of it. She had to wonder if it was all completed in this mirror image. Her eyes constantly looking about her, both level and above her.

Each room had a small fireplace and a water basin nearby that, there were a few furnishing, a table, a chair but not near what would be needed for full capacity. "Now, dis space 'ere." pointing to a a bare space in the floor along
an outer wall he lifted a large hatch. "Ye toss yer dirty tings down 'ere, dey all collect in de bottom. Each floor gots one." Leading her swifting passed the classrooms, waiting rooms, sewing and weaving rooms, upwards all the time. The patient rooms were quaint, enough room to make two people comfortable. (only one of the rooms was fully furnished).

She eyed the area he was speaking of and though the concept was a bit strange to her, she followed right along. The quality of the work was excellent and each room and area did seem to have all she had requested plus more but she could not shake the reversed look of things as they passed through the rooms. "Aye, tis ample room." She agreed. "Master Tynkre, forgive me boot I be quite sure this be just a bit reversed from what I 'ad requested.." but quickly added, "....though tis grand work o'course. I just be wonderin'...did ye 'ave reason?" She was not angered or offended, but truly curious.

"Ahm...nope." he lied, it was. Directing her attention to the next floor...Conveniently passing the healer's offices and living quarters they went all the way up to the servant quarters so she could look over the railing to see the garden below. On the very top level there was a large iron wheel, a basin with half a dozen pipes coming out of it to different parts of the tower. "Give de whell a spin, be easy it's 'eavy." he leaned over the basin and waited.

She smiled at his response but followed him. When she stood beside the large iron wheel and basin, she eyed it with much interest. A brow lifted as he instructed her and she reached out and turned the wheel with effort being
careful to apply just the right amount of pressure then watched to see what would happen.

It turned easily. But initually nothing happened, Tynk leaned against the basin and looked around, as the wheel rotated on, it pulled on a long chain and cups. In a few moments a little water started coming out, then
as the wheel slowed the water slowed. "Der, ye gots water fer washin'. It'll go threw dese pipes ta each floor long as one o'yer servants spins de wheel." He flicked some water at her."

Aisling's face lit up and she would giggle as he flicked water on her. "'ow verra clever and verra useful Master Tynkre." She wiped the specs of water that had landed on her. "Verra clever indeed."

"Workin' on a way ta do dat wit patients, but right now ain't got a wheel big 'nuff fer it." Then he started down the stairs again. "I 'spose ye wants ta see yer rooms?"

It took a few seconds to digest what he had said and she could not keep a chuckle from escaping but tried to cover it with a fake cough. "I should verra much like to see them." She glanced back to the wheel then turned with renewed excitement to see her rooms. "Oh aye, please."

Each corner of the structure housed something different just as she wanted...almost. At her door he stopped and fiddled around in his britches. A silver key was offered. "Yer room, go on open de door."

She looked across from them and then looked back to the door he stopped before then to the key. She took the key from him with a bit of confusion on her face and then slid it in. Turning the key and opening the door, she realized that she was holding her breath.

The room was exactly as she wanted it, all her furniture was there though piled up in the middle of the room. The dwarf was going to move it once and once only. "Ders an office and a sittin' room, though ye ain't got a standin' room der is a bed room. An ders a smaller room fer a personal sorta room fer personal sorta stuff likes... personal stuff."

She stood there in the room looking it over and a smile would spread across her face. Then she looked back to Tynk. "It's wonderful Tynk and I truly am gratified to 'ave a room fer personal use indeed. You 'ave thought
o' it all."

"Wull, ye gots a do de garden on account I don't go inta gardens anyone ...Queen's orders."

"Oh?" She lifted an eyebrow and made note to speak to Caille of it soon and find out just what he meant. She didn't think it quite polite to question him. "And the lower floors? Be they completed as well Master Tynkre?"

"Still workin' on dem, specially de ones what nobody is s'posed ta go inta...de quaranteened areas. Iffn der quaranteen areas, ain't nobody can work down der." yes, the dwarf was at an impass there.

"Ahhh...boot they be quaranteened only when it be occupied by those poor souls that be afflicted by ills that be passed from one tae another Master Tynkre. As long as they be empty, there be nae need tae quaranteen and therefore safe fer ye workers, aye?"

"Wull, I'll take down de signs till ye says it needs ta be quaranteened. An since ye wants ta put de food floor below dat....may'aps ye wants ta switch dem around so's folks goin' in an outa der don't gotta pass through der 'no one goes in 'ere' areas."

She smiled to him but he had a very good point. "And ma'aps ye be right about the quaranteen floor. Ifn' it be nae troublesome work, I should think that would be the best." Her expression seemed to give appearance of her asking herself why she had not thought of it before? She knew why. Her hidden room was on the lowest floor before. The room that few knew about. Still, it was long gone and this would work well, she was sure of it.

"Most all de smaller details will be done soon, like beds and such. Soon as we get den in ye can wheel in de sick folks.

"And 'ow soon dae ye think that might be Master Tynkre?" She was now following him back to the door.

"Beds is at de carpenters, dat many'll take a few weeks. Tol't de feller iffn 'e'd 'urry up wit it de King'ud pay 'im a bonus." wink wink.

"An ders four owls on de roof...der stone. Scares de cra...er....scares de pigeons away so's dey donnae come land on de scary statues on de first floor."

She looked up at his words even though she could not see them from their position within the tower. She nodded and
chuckled. "G'd thinkin' and I be quite sure the King would dae just that." She was tempted to wink back but did not.

As they arrived once more to the entrance of the tower, Aisling would smile to him. "I be quite impressed Master Tynkre and I shall tell the Royals 'ow verra pleased I be."

"Oh no, donnae tell dem. Queen be wimmenfolk, she might wanna change tings around. Wimmenfolks is dat way." then he realized she was wimmenfolk, "yer pardons." A brow rose slowly, dear god she was getting into the mood...changes were coming, he knew it!!!

Again she found herself stifling the laughter that threatened to escape. But instead she nodded to him. She was beginning to understand perhaps why things were reversed a bit from her original plans though she wasn't sure. "Still, I be verra pleased and I shall make report to such. Thank ye Master Tynkre and fair paths tae ye." She would put a hand to his shoulder gently then turn to return to the castle main.

Tynk watched her go. Then locked up. Then unlocked the door realizing he needed to be outside to properly lock the building up.
